Becoming Strong and Sturdy Like an Oak of Righteousness

DAY 2 OF 7

Day 2: Awakenings

Leaving the path to destruction, to know Him, to be still and know He is who scripture tells us He is, and who He says He is. Encouraged to become a strong oak.

Introduction:

Finding your identity and understanding who you are can be a real struggle when it is not rooted in a firm foundation. The world is more than willing to “label” and “categorize” you to fit its purposes. Your family, your friends, people you come across do not mind giving you their opinions and judgements of you. Too often, through comparison and the obsession to fit in, people settle into a reality and an identity that people, places, and things impose upon them. This type of identity is superficial at best.

In Exodus 3, the Lord appears to Moses in a burning bush. Why is this important to identity? The bush was burning but not consumed. It was reality and identity that cannot be consumed. Moses goes onto ask the Lord, “If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, The God of your fathers has sent me to you, and they ask me what is His name? What shall I say to them?” God makes the ultimate proclamation of identity and reality. God said, “I am Who I am.” He is the source of all life. He is reality. He is identity. When your identity is planted in Him, you will grow immovable roots, strong and sturdy like an oak tree.

Daily Reflection Questions.

  1. What beliefs/influences do you currently hold about your identity that lead you away from “I am?”
  2. What is one action you can take today to walk towards the burning bush (God’s presence) and claim your true identity?
  3. Create a two column document. In the first column, write/type who you believe you are. Open Isaiah 61, in the second column write/type who God says you are and His promises for you.

Prayer:

Father, I proclaim “I AM” as the source of my identity. Help me to find my identity only in You so that I would have a firm foundation, strong and sturdy like an oak tree.
