What the Bible Says About Advent - 29 Days of Advent Meditationsნიმუში

Week 3: The Joy Candle – Rejoicing in the Savior
The third Advent candle, often called the Shepherd’s Candle, represents joy. This week’s devotions focus on the joy of Christ’s arrival and presence.
Day 15: Joy in the Savior’s Birth
- Verses:
- Luke 2:10–11: "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people."
- Matthew 2:10: "When they saw the star, they were overjoyed."
- Isaiah 12:3: "With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation."
- John 1:4–5: "In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind."
- Psalm 98:4: "Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth, burst into jubilant song."
- Reflection:
The birth of Jesus sparked uncontainable joy for shepherds and Magi, a joy rooted in the good news of salvation. Luke 2:10–11 heralds this universal joy, fulfilled in Christ, the light of humanity (John 1:4–5). Isaiah 12:3 likens salvation to refreshing water, sustaining our hearts. This Advent, we’re invited to share in this joy, celebrating the Savior who brings life and light. His arrival transforms our perspective, calling us to rejoice in the gift of His presence, which dispels darkness and fills us with hope.
- Application:
- Reflect on a moment when Christ’s presence brought you joy. How can you recapture that this Advent?
- This week, share the joy of Jesus’ birth by telling someone about His love, perhaps through a kind gesture or conversation.
- Spend time praising God with a song from Psalm 98:4, letting joy overflow.
- Journal about how the good news of Jesus refreshes your soul, and pray for opportunities to spread this joy to others, reflecting His light in your actions.
- Prayer:
Lord, fill my heart with the joy of Your Son, Jesus' first coming, as announced to the shepherds. In Jesus' name. Amen.
About this Plan

These 29 daily devotionals, created by Dr. Walt Larimore, are structured around the four traditional pre-Christmas Advent candles—Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love and one final devotion for the penultimate Christ candle. Each of the first four weeks focuses on one candle, with seven daily devotions exploring a specific aspect of that theme through Bible verses, a reflection, and a prayer prompt—then, of course, the final Christmas Eve or Christmas Day devotion. All Bible verses are quoted from the NIV, 2011.
