How to Be a Better Husband

DAY 2 OF 3

Day 2

To Lead is to Serve

The idea that the husband is the "head" of the wife can spark resistance, often because of the oppressive and abusive models we've seen. But Jesus's model flips this logic upside down. The leadership He proposes has nothing to do with being a general or always being right, but everything to do with serving.

To lead like Christ is to take the initiative to care for, guide, and lighten the load of the person by your side. It’s being the first to break the silence after a conflict and seek restoration. It’s like being a guide on a trail who walks ahead and simply says, "Jesus is going this way, come on." A husband's leadership isn't meant to create a space of domination, but an environment of safety where each person can flourish and feel joy in belonging.

Reflection Questions:

  • Has my leadership at home been more like a boss who gives orders or a servant who cares for and lightens the load?
  • In moments of conflict, do I usually wait for my wife to take the first step, or do I take responsibility for seeking reconciliation first?

Prayer Suggestion:

"Jesus, You who are the greatest of all made yourself a servant. Transform my understanding of leadership. Teach me to guide my family through service, to take the initiative in love, and to be a source of rest and security, not a burden. May my wife see a reflection of Your care in me."
