Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

DAY 361 OF 365

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth (Acts 1:8 NKJV).

Are you accomplishing God’s work by the Spirit’s power?

The Lord set apart two choice servants to accomplish the task of completing the building of the temple. Joshua the high priest and Zerubbabel the governor are His picks. Without the enabling power of the Holy Spirit, the temple will not be rebuilt, and God’s witness to the nations will be stifled. Truly, the Lord’s work is “not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit” (Zechariah 4:6 NKJV). When the task at hand seems impossible to complete, God dispatches the Holy Spirit to finish the unfinished!

In today’s reading, we read about the fall of Babylon, symbolizing the emptiness of worldly wealth, power, and pleasure. When the world crumbles, only God’s kingdom will stand. What are you building your life on? I strongly encourage you to let go of anything competing for your devotion to God. Instead, let the Holy Spirit guide you as you study the scriptures and prepare yourself for ministry.

Employment Point: Depend upon God’s Holy Spirit to equip you for service.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
