DAY 5 OF 30

DAY FIVE — Faith Is a Family Journey

Before Jethro gave Moses wise counsel about leadership, there was a beautiful reunion in the desert. Moses’ wife, Zipporah, and his two sons had been staying with her father. Jethro brought them to Moses, and together they joined the Israelites in their journey with God.

Faith isn’t meant to be lived in isolation. God often works through families—imperfect, sometimes messy families—to carry His purposes forward. Zipporah had been part of Moses’ calling from the beginning, and now she and their children stepped back into the story of God’s people.

When God calls us, He often calls those connected to us as well. Our faith impacts spouses, children, parents, and communities. Just as Moses welcomed his family into God’s unfolding story, we too are called to invite those closest to us to walk with us in faith.

Whether your family of origin is strong, broken, or somewhere in between, God can use those relationships for His glory. And in Christ, He also gives us a spiritual family—the body of believers—to journey with us in the wilderness.

REFLECTION QUESTIONS

  • How have you seen your faith journey impact your family (for better or harder)?
  • What would it look like to invite those closest to you into a deeper walk with God?

About this Plan

The Promised Land

THE PROMISED LAND and Milk and Honey Productions have created this plan to help individuals and groups engage the story of Exodus and Leviticus in a fresh way. In this 30-day devotional, you’ll see clips from THE PROMISED LAND, read passages of Scripture, and reflect on questions that connect Israel’s journey to your own walk of faith. Through humor, reverence, and honesty, we’ll discover that God uses ordinary, imperfect people to accomplish His extraordinary purposes.
