A Generation Between: The Xennial Pursuit of Christნიმუში

Day Three: Balance
Our generation has always carried a lot on its shoulders. Xennials came of age right as technology began blurring the line between work and rest. We learned to juggle careers, family life, aging parents, financial pressures, and the endless demands of a connected world. We have been encouraged to “do it all,” often at the cost of our peace and personal health. Balance has always felt just out of reach, like something promised in motivational books but rarely experienced in real life. Deep down, most Xennials long for a rhythm that allows us to be faithful in our responsibilities without being crushed by them.
The world has long defined balance as managing time well enough to keep pressing forward. In earlier years, that meant work/life balance — success in the office and happiness at home. Today, balance is often marketed as self-care: carving out moments of rest so we can push harder tomorrow. Biblical balance is different. It’s not about mastering time or maximizing efficiency; it’s about ordering our lives around God. Balance comes when we recognize our limits, embrace rest as a gift, and let Christ set the rhythm of our days. Jesus invited us not to add more to our schedules, but to come to Him and find rest for our souls (Matt. 11:28–30).
Scripture points to a deeper kind of balance. The psalmist reminds us that our hard work is meaningless unless God Himself builds and sustains it (Ps. 127:1–2). Ecclesiastes teaches that there is a time for everything, and wisdom lies in discerning which season we are in (Eccl. 3:1–8). Paul reminds us that whether in work or rest, whatever we do should be done in the name of the Lord (Col. 3:17). Balance is not ultimately about juggling better; it is about trusting God to order our lives and walking in step with Him.
Reflection: What part of your life feels most out of balance right now, and how might surrendering it to Christ help you regain balance?
About this Plan

Falling between Gen X and Millennials, the so-called “Xennial” generation carries the weight of both worlds. We grew up in an analog childhood and stepped into a digital adulthood, shaped by a blend of simplicity and complexity few others have known. Along the way, we learned to polish appearances – through church programs, cultural expectations, and curated social media feeds – until performing itself became exhausting. No wonder so many of us long for a faith that is genuine, rooted in Christ, and free of pretense. This five-day devotional speaks to that longing.
