DAY 14 OF 30

A New Creation

A term associated with saving faith is repentance. To repent is to have a change of mind and heart, leading to a new direction—a desire to turn from sin and a self-led life to a Christ-led life. A life the Lord enables us to live as he works in and through us (Galatians 2:20, Philippians 2:13). Along with that, numerous Scriptures convey that being released from judgment is not a license to remain in a sinful lifestyle but to live for God (Romans 6, Titus 2:11-14). Jesus indicated as much when praying for his followers, “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth” (John 17:17, CSB). To be sanctified is to be set apart for God, which is also the Lord’s will (1 Thessalonians 4:3).

As new creations in Christ, we’re to live for the one who died for us and rose again. Who created us in Christ for good works that He empowers us to do (2 Corinthians 5:14-15, 17, Ephesians 2:10, Philippians 2:13, 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24). And though we cannot add to what Christ has accomplished, with the enabling of the Holy Spirit, a true believer will want to become more like Christ in all areas of life. This is the heart of the Father for us. He loves us and desires for you and me to experience an abundant life in Christ, the life Jesus came to give us (John 10:10). As a result, it grieves him when we’re deceived into living for the short-term pleasures of sin and self (Hebrews 11:24-26).

Undoubtedly, every believer will stumble at times. While this is not a license for sin (Jude 4), it’s the reality of the ongoing war between our new and old natures (Galatians 5:16-25). Thankfully, the Lord promises to forgive us when we confess our sins (1 John 1:9). Our failures aren’t final. Our God is faithful. His love endures forever, and his mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22).

Reflection: Today's plan includes several Scriptures. I would suggest you spend a day or two reviewing them before moving on. Romans 6 is a good place to start.

About this Plan

Amazed

In John 5, after Jesus heals a man at the pool of Bethesda, he then declared that greater works would occur, causing people to be amazed. Over the next thirty days, this plan by Dr. P. J. Meduri from Taking the Field Ministries will explore the claims of Christ regarding these greater works. Works he continues today through his followers.
