Hearing From God's Word

DAY 1 OF 6

A Long Tradition of Listening

When Jesus stood to read the Scriptures in Nazareth, He was stepping into a rhythm that had been practiced for generations. God’s people have always gathered to hear His Word. At Sinai, they heard His voice thunder from the mountain. In the synagogue, they listened to the Law and the Prophets. In the early church, they “devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching” (Acts 2:42).

This was no human invention. God Himself established this pattern: His people gather, His Word is read, and His voice is heard. That’s why we don’t treat Bible reading in worship as filler—it’s God speaking to His people.

The next time the Bible is read aloud in worship, lean in. Treat it as a holy moment. God is not just speaking to a crowd—He is speaking to you. Don’t let it become routine.

Prayer:
Lord, help me to approach the reading of Your Word with reverence and expectation. Let me never take lightly the privilege of hearing Your voice in the assembly of Your people.

About this Plan

Hearing From God's Word

Every Sunday for thousands of years, God’s people have gathered to sing His praise, to pray together, and—at the very center—to hear His Word read and proclaimed. This is not a modern church invention—it’s the way God has always met with His people. The Word is not an accessory to worship—it’s the anchor of worship.
