Fighting Injustice With Art and Faithნიმუში

The group of abolitionists that Hannah More was part of, known as the Clapham group (an area of England), had a spirit of innovation that has stood the test of time.
Their faith and creativity was used by God to end oppression, but also to change the way ministries organize and operate. Yesterday we looked at the innovation of the newsletter that they introduced into the world.
One of their friends, Josiah Wedgwood, was a famous artist who worked for the King. He created a seal of a slave who was praying with the words "Am I Not A Man and A Brother" (pictured below). The words cut to the heart and were a quick way that people were reminded of the humanity of slaves.
They were people to be loved; people God created; brothers and sisters.
This innovation, using a seal to make a clear and concise statement was, ultimately, the first ever political button.
Nowadays we see buttons and stickers like this all over the place. But there was a time no one had ever conceived of using a punchy, pithy message with a compelling image before. A group of Spirit-led believers created it.
Action Point:
Have bold faith today! Ask God for an innovative idea from that He can give you to bless people in your life in a new or surprising way to make an impact for the kingdom.

About this Plan

Long ago, a writer named Hannah More used her poems to help end slavery. Another writer, Alexandr Solzhenitsyn, wrote stories that showed how terrible forced labor was in his country. Just like them, today's artists can use the gifts God has given them combined with the truth of God's word to make a difference in the world. This plan will encourage you to use your God-given talents to stand up for truth and help others in need.
