In the Mirror of Life: 31 Days of Identity, Purpose, and Gratitude

DAY 25 OF 31

HEALING OLD WOUNDS

Key Verse:
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18 (NIV).

Reflection:
Childhood and adult wounds may be invisible to the eyes, but they continue to ache in the soul. Many women keep living with marks of rejection, emotional abuse, or words that wounded their identity. In In Search of Myself, we learn that denying pain does not heal — it only prolongs suffering. In In the Mirror of Life, we understand that the past can be faced with courage, because God transforms scars into testimonies of resilience.

In psychology, untreated wounds return as symptoms: anxiety, depression, difficulty trusting. In psychoanalysis, repressed memories influence unconscious choices. From a systemic perspective, unacknowledged pain continues to demand space in the family. The Bible reminds us that the Lord specializes in broken hearts: He does not despise tears — He gathers them and transforms them into healing.

Additional Verses:

  • “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” – Psalm 147:3 (NIV).
  • ‘Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security.’” — Jeremiah 33:6 (NIV).

Systemic Reflection Phrase:
“When I acknowledge my wounds, I create space for God to breathe new life into them.”

Practical Challenge:
Identify one wound that still hurts today. Write it down on paper and, in prayer, place it before God. Then tear the paper as a symbol of surrender.

Therapeutic Technique:
Practice therapeutic writing: describe a painful episode and then rewrite it as you wish it had happened, offering your inner child words of care and protection.

Prayer:
Lord, You know my old wounds, the ones I cannot always speak of. Today I place them before You. Touch my memories, heal my pain, and give me a restored heart. May every scar be a reminder of Your power to turn pain into life. Amen.
