Coming to Life: 30-Day Devotionalნიმუში

The Divided Kingdom
After Solomon’s reign, Israel split into two kingdoms — Israel in the north and Judah in the south. What was meant to be united under God’s covenant fractured because of disobedience and idolatry. The divided kingdom became a picture of spiritual unfaithfulness, with kings who led people further from God.
God, in His mercy, continued to send prophets. The people often rejected His messengers, mocking and resisting His word. Division led to weakness, and weakness eventually led to exile. What had been one strong nation under David became broken because their hearts were divided.
The divided kingdom is more than history; it is a warning. Jesus Himself taught that a house divided cannot stand. When our hearts are divided — pulled between loyalty to God and the idols of this world — we become unstable and weak.
And yet, even in the midst of division, God’s plan of redemption remained. Hosea speaks of God’s deep love for Israel, a love fulfilled in Jesus. Matthew shows that Jesus is the true Son called out of Egypt, the faithful Israel who would succeed where the nation failed.
Where division brought ruin, Jesus brings unity. He unites Jew and Gentile, reconciling both to God through the cross. He makes one new people, breaking down the wall of hostility. In Him, the divided find peace, and the fractured are made whole.
Reflection Questions
- What “divisions of the heart” threaten to pull you away from wholehearted devotion to God?
- How does Jesus bring unity in places of division in your own life or community?
Prayer
Lord, forgive me for the times my heart is divided. Teach me to love You with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength. Thank You for Jesus, who heals division and makes us one in You. Help me to walk in unity with You and with others. Amen.
