Rooted: 30 Days to Strengthen Your Faith Through Struggle

DAY 2 OF 30

WEEK 1: Uprooting the Lies

Focus: Exposing the lies that keep us stuck and disconnected from our identity in Christ.

Day 2: When Shame Shapes Your Identity

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit.” Romans 8:1

Trauma, past mistakes, things spoken over us - all can bring out shame. And shame wants to speak into our identity.

Shame wants us to believe that we are too broken, too hard to love, too difficult to connect with. Shame wants to isolate us from God and others.

Why?

So we won’t become the living, breathing testimonies God has planned for us to be. You see, God created us with kingdom purpose. Yes, to glorify him. But also to point others to him through our lives. Lives lived in truth, guided by the Holy Spirit.

We have to recognize shame for what it is - a lie. And who is the father of lies? Satan himself. And he operates by having us abandon our walk with the Spirit to chase the lies of the flesh.

An identity that is shaped by shame is one that shows up in the world from a place of fear, anxiety, and despair.

But an identity rooted in God’s truth - listening to the Holy Spirit - is marked by faith, hope, joy, and endurance.

Shame calls to us through the veil of sin - ours or others. But Christ came to set us free. To wash us clean and give us a new name. In Christ, we are holy, blameless, and set apart.

Declare this truth over yourself today.

Reflection Questions

  • How has shame spoken louder than truth in your life?
  • What does “no condemnation” mean to you today?
  • How can you walk in the Spirit this week?

About this Plan

Rooted: 30 Days to Strengthen Your Faith Through Struggle

We often view struggle as a bad thing to be avoided. Who wants pain, right? But what if it's in the struggle that God does some of his best refining work? What if it's in the struggle we are strengthened for the journey ahead? Jesus told us we would have trials - but we can take heart because we never walk the valley's alone. Join me for 30 days as we travel through scripture and strengthen our faith together in the face of struggle.
