More Than a Dream Coat

DAY 7 OF 7

WEAR YOUR OWN COAT

Every time I return from a road trip, I walk into my house with a new sense of gratitude and peace. The comfort of belonging in my home is priceless. And when I’m reminded anew how the Lord provides for my specific needs and purpose, I stand in awe.

Imagine how different Joseph’s story would have turned out if Judah knew that the Messiah would be born from his lineage (Revelation 5:5). Would he still be willing to kill his brother over a colorful coat?

We often overlook our special gifts from the Lord by comparing them to those of others. We miss the great purposes God intended when He gave us each detail of our lives. The “coat” God designed for you is perfect for what He wants to do in your life. “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago” (Ephesians 2:10, NLT).

What does your life look like compared to others? How do you think God wants to use your special gifts and resources for His purposes?

Let us be content with the unique plans that the Lord has for us without coveting those of someone else. And let us thank Him each day for including us in His wonderful design for our lives. “So don’t be misled, my dear brothers and sisters. Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens” (James 1:16-17, NLT).

About this Plan

More Than a Dream Coat

Do you often wish your circumstances were different? Who do you know who seems to have the perfect life? In this Plan, we will study the tenth commandment a bit deeper. And I hope that we will find ways to heal our covetous hearts and find contentment in the Lord.
