Play Like Him

DAY 1 OF 5

Day 1 – Integrity

Pool has long been a sport where people use every angle to gain an advantage. Getting house-racked to throwing games to obtain a lower handicap is just common in our world. We’ve also seen someone make a blatant foul but go on playing as if nothing happened. It goes further, though, and some of it is semi-hilarious. For example, I heard of a player who goes by a different name at ACS national events as a way to keep his team in the open division rather than play in the advanced.

As followers of Jesus, how do we operate in the midst of these realities? We don’t! As believers, we are called to operate outside of these realities. We are called to be counter-cultural because we operate under the values of the Kingdom of God. Like Jesus said in John 17:16, “They are not of the world, as I am not of it.” If the culture is dishonest, shady behavior, we come against that with behavior that is full of integrity, in every way, shape, and form – even to our detriment.

We may have once operated that way, but we can’t any longer. Paul said this in Colossians 1:22, "And you, who were once alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds, he has now reconciled in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him.”

About this Plan

Play Like Him

It’s easy to separate hobbies from faith—Sunday as “God time” and pool as “me time.” But God wants to be part of every area of our lives, including the pool hall, competition, and conversations. Your attitude, sportsmanship, and respect for opponents reflect your character and witness. Colossians 3:17 says, “Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus...” This reminds us to glorify God in everything. These five devotionals will challenge and encourage you to grow in faith as you learn what it truly means to Play Like Him!
