The Best Meal

DAY 3 OF 5

The drink

Well, now that you are already seated for your lunch date with your Host, if a server approaches you, what is the first thing they will ask?

"What would you like to drink?"

In a similar way, right at the beginning of His conversation with the Samaritan woman, Jesus offers her a drink: living water (John 4:10).

What makes this water so different from any other water? This water has the potential to transform this seemingly random encounter into the best meal the woman could partake of. And, some verses later, Jesus even explains the "nutritious value" of the water He offers:

“Everyone who drinks this water [from the well] will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:13-14; NIV)

The Samaritan woman was used to drinking water from the well. No matter how delicious and refreshing this water is, it's only "still" water — there's no movement, no newness. The water Jesus offers, however, is different — is dynamic, is "bubbly". Instead of always being in the same place, it flows. It is a living water; this means that it transforms whoever drinks of it into "a spring of water welling up to eternal life".

Thus, whoever accepts this invitation from Jesus and drinks from this water will start to well up in such a way that they will start to overflow life wherever they go, sharing the eternal life wherever they go!

In the same way, dear Guest of Honor, the drink that we have on this "best meal" menu, of which you are taking part, and that your Host is offering you, is living water, becoming, in you, a spring of water welling up to eternal life. Would you accept this drink?
