Day 4: The Fire of the Holy Spirit

“They asked each other, ‘Were not our hearts burning within us while He [the resurrected Jesus] talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?’” -Luke 24:32 (NIV)

Some Biblical scholars suggest that the fire of God is not merely a symbol of passion or judgment, but the very Person of the Holy Spirit. He is the source of divine zeal, revival, and love, represented in Scripture by fire, wind, water, breath, and a dove. The Holy Spirit sets our hearts ablaze with the love of Jesus Christ.

“And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you” (Ezekiel 36:26 NIV).

If the Holy Spirit is the Fire of God, what does it mean for you to reflect that fire? Jesus gives us a glimpse in the Sermon on the Mount:

“You are the light of the world… let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:14,16 NIV).

To understand our calling, we look back to the lampstand in the Tabernacle, crafted of pure gold, hammered with branches, blossoms, and seven lamps to light the space in front of it (Exodus 25:31–40 NIV). That space held the Bread of the Presence, symbolizing Jesus, the Bread of Life (John 6:35 NIV).

Just like that lampstand, we are designed to spotlight Jesus, ushering people into the glory of The LORD!

This is your calling: not only to be an image-bearer of God, but also a torchbearer of God’s Spirit, illuminating Jesus in every place you go. Like an Olympic torch relay, the Church carries the flame of Christ from His ascension to His return. Your presence illuminates His Presence.

Prayer:

God, thank You for designing me to bear Your image and carry the torch of Your Spirit. Help me walk boldly in my purpose, letting my light shine brightly to reflect the beauty of Your Presence. Amen!
