Doubting God in the Dark

DAY 3 OF 5

From our human perspective, it's easy to value ease and stability as some of the most important factors of success in life, but God measures life by obedience to the purpose He has given us. As His children, we must understand that God’s priority is our calling, not necessarily our comfort. This truth is difficult to hear but also liberating. When we see the story of John, we see that his purpose was fulfilled even though his circumstances never improved. His assignment on this earth was to prepare the way for Jesus, and he accomplished it faithfully.

When your life is anchored in His calling, every trial becomes a tool in His refining process.

In dark seasons, I would encourage you to think of your life as a recipe in the hands of the Master Baker. Some seasons are sweet and they'll bring joy and blessing; however, others will be bland and bitter like baking soda. When we look at each ingredient alone, they seem unpleasant, but the Master Baker knows the end result before the product is even put together.

The same truth can be said about our lives. Remember, what tastes bitter now is necessary for the beauty of the finished work (Romans 8:28). When we “taste-test” our lives in the middle of the process, it’s easy for us to judge the end result as bad or hopeless, but we must remember we are not yet seeing the fullness of what God desires or has in store (1 Corinthians 13:12).

Your trials are not random; they have a purpose. Each season is a part of God’s design to shape you into the person He has called you to be. Trust His process, even when it doesn’t feel comfortable.

Today's Challenge: Think about one difficult season in your life and write down how it might be part of God’s larger work in you.

Let's Pray: Lord, help me trust that every season is shaping me into the person You’ve called me to be. Give me faith to see my trials through the lens of Your purpose.

About this Plan

Doubting God in the Dark

Life has a way of leading us through both mountaintops and valleys, seasons of clarity and seasons of confusion. In this reading plan, through John the Baptist’s story and the other verses in Scripture, you’ll see that doubt doesn’t disqualify you, God’s silence isn’t His absence, and your calling is worth more than your comfort. He is still writing your story, and His pen has never left the page.
