Day 17: Resting in God's Unchanging Character
"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." Hebrews 13:8 (NIV)
Everything around us changes: technology, relationships, careers, health. But amidst all these changes, there is One who remains absolutely constant: our God.
When the Bible affirms that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever, this is not just theological information. It is an anchor for the soul. God's love does not waver according to our performance. His faithfulness does not waver in the face of circumstances. His promises do not expire with time.
Think of God's character that never changes: His holiness, His love, His justice, His mercy, His wisdom, His power, His faithfulness. These are not qualities He turns on and off like a switch. They are the very attributes of who He is. When Malachi declared, "I, the Lord, do not change," he was revealing something fundamental about God's nature that transcends all temporal circumstances.
This is where you find comfort when everything else seems uncertain:
When we don't know what tomorrow holds, we know who holds it.
When we can't predict how situations will unfold, we can predict how God will respond: always with perfect love, wisdom, and timing.
Scripture is replete with examples:
The God who parted the Red Sea still opens impossible paths.
The God who provided manna still meets needs.
The God who gave wisdom to Solomon still guides His children.
The God who comforted Job still comforts those who mourn.
He hasn't changed; only the scenarios change.
We can trust Him not because we understand His ways, but because we know His heart.
Therefore, shift your focus from your changing circumstances to God's unchanging character. Read His promises, remember His past faithfulness, and rest in the truth that the God who has been faithful for countless generations will be faithful to you.
My Prayer:
Lord Jesus, amidst life's changes, I find peace in the fact that You never change. Your love is steadfast, Your faithfulness is unwavering, and Your promises are sure. Help me to anchor my soul in Your unchanging character and remember Your faithfulness when I am tempted to doubt. May my security be in You, my eternal Rock. Thank you that You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. In Your unchanging name, Amen.
Questions to Reflect:
1. What aspect of God's unchanging character do you most need to remember today?
2. What specific promises from the Word can you cling to when everything seems unstable?
