Draw Near

DAY 4 OF 5

The Lord Will Provide

When we closely follow the way of Jesus, we begin to discover the faith that following Him requires—a trust in God’s goodness that obeys His Word and calling no matter how costly.

In today’s reading, we’re going to lean in and learn what genuine faith looked like for Abraham and his miracle son, Isaac. God, who provides all good things, called Abraham to sacrifice his precious only son as a burnt offering on top of a mountain—a seemingly impossible task of surrender.

Remember, God had made a promise to Abraham to make him into a great and numerous nation. And after years of waiting, this promise was finally in motion when Abraham and Sarah welcomed their son Isaac.

Can you imagine the faith it must have taken Abraham with each step up the mountain, knowing he was to sacrifice Isaac in obedience to what God had told him to do? And yet, his absolute confidence in God persuaded him to consider that God would be able to raise Isaac up from death.

That’s true faith. That is what it looks like to know and rely on the goodness and wondrous power of your God.

Once again, God confirmed His promise, and Abraham knew that “The Lᴏʀᴅ will provide.”

Abraham’s test of faith can sound like an impossible request to obey, but this foreshadowed God Himself, who with indescribable love, gave the ultimate sacrificial gift:

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:16-17 NIV

Pause and Reflect

What step of faith is God calling you to take today?

Pray

Yahweh, my Provider, I praise You! Thank You for always being on time to provide exactly what is needed. Help me to keep my eyes fixed on You. Today, like Abraham, I surrender all. I give You my full trust. Lead me moment by moment. I cast off all disobedience, doubt, and distractions, because they hinder my walk with You. I give You my burdens and brokenness, and ask for mighty breakthroughs. I trust that You are working for good. Use each trial to test and build my faith to be like Abraham, who knew You were able. In Jesus’ name, amen.
