DAY 1 OF 3

Day One: From Blindness to Sight

My precious mother loves to remind me of a childhood moment sparked by the Lord. Eyes wide with wonder, I came to her when I was three and said, “Mommy, what’s the biggest number?”

“Well… numbers don’t really end, sweetheart. They keep going forever,” she replied. “If you want to record the biggest number, write a ‘1’ and then keep adding zeroes to it.”

She says I nodded thoughtfully and went to work writing the biggest number, telling her with childlike boldness, “This is how much I love Jesus!”

Isn’t there something pure and beautiful about how children express the deepest love of Jesus with simple understanding? At the beginning of my story, I glimpsed eternity when the Lord wrote it into my soul and inspired my young heart to see Him.

In John 9, we witness an encounter where a man born blind sees Jesus. The disciples were quick to turn suffering into a theological debate: “Who sinned, this man or his parents?” But Jesus reframed the moment, saying, “This happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.” (John 9:3 NIV) Jesus then made a saliva mud paste, placed it on the man’s eyes, and then told him to go wash in the Pool of Siloam. After the man obeyed, for the first time in his life, he not only felt seen…but he was able to see!

John tells us more of the story as this man is questioned, rejected, and mocked; yet his vision continues to grow clearer. At first, he calls Jesus “a man.” Then “a prophet.” Finally, after Jesus reveals Himself, the man says, “Lord, I believe,” and he worships Him (John 9:38 NIV). His eyes were opened, and so were the windows to his soul. Meanwhile, the Pharisees who thought they could see remained blind. They had knowledge but no insight, religion but no relationship. Their hearts were closed to the light standing right in front of them.

We are all on a journey from blindness to sight, where Jesus is inviting us to come closer and see Him more clearly. His love is deeper than your doubts. His grace brighter than your confusion. Like that little girl pursuing infinity, our biggest ideas of Jesus are only a glimpse compared to the fullness we will know one day. We can always trust God because He writes the best stories!

Prayer:

Jesus, open my eyes. Where I am blinded by fear, pride, pain, or a lack of understanding, shine Your light. I want to see You more clearly, follow You more closely, and love You more fully. Let me grow from simple love into deeper intimacy. Open our eyes Lord, We want to see Jesus. Amen!
