In Seeking His Kingdom
“Because I carry out the will of the one who sent me, not my own will.” John 5:30 (NLT)
What occupies our thoughts and concerns? Where is our focus? Often, our hearts and minds are drawn to the pressing needs of daily life—finances, security, comfort. But are we able to take our eyes from the temporary and fix our gaze on the heavenly and imperishable, investing in what truly matters?
In the Gospel of John, we see Jesus, whose life unfolds the will of the Father. Every breath, every word, every act, every miracle points to this divine mission— manifesting the Kingdom of God among us. He healed, He preached, He showed mercy, and every action pulsed with the heartbeat of heaven. His heart was set on one goal: to reveal the Father’s character in a deeper and more radiant way.
King David, too, challenges us with his unquenchable zeal for God’s glory and his heart fully devoted to God. David delighted in the God’s law, and he cherished the honor of aligning his will with God’s purpose. In response, God richly satisfied David’s heart as he sought righteous paths!
2 Samuel 7 contains an extraordinary story. We see David, after a lifetime of battles, finally at peace in his reign. His kingdom was established, his enemies subdued, and his life comfortable. But instead of resting, David found himself restless. His lavish lifestyle and royal palace didn’t feel right to him because he knew that the Lord dwelt in a tent. David’s heart burned with a vision to build a house for the Lord, and he shared this desire with the prophet Nathan.
But then came an astonishing revelation through the prophet Nathan. God promised him something even more profound: “… I will establish a HOUSE for YOU... I will raise up your offspring after you, who will come from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom… your house and your kingdom will endure before Me forever; your throne will be established forever.” David’s role wasn’t to build God’s house; God entrusted this task to his son, Solomon. All David needed to do was trust and boldly hold onto God’s unshakeable promise. This promise wasn’t about brick and mortar; it was about a lasting legacy that ultimately finds its fulfillment in King Jesus.
This is the mystery of God’s covenant faithfulness. His plans exceed our vision. While we may have a small purpose in mind, God ordains something far greater and richer. He promises a kingdom that will stand forever! His blessings overflow for those who trust in Him.
“Lord, bless my house and my family. Let each generation live before You in obedience, delight, and faith, seeking Your heart and trusting in Your promises. Empower us to live boldly by faith, stepping into the legacy You’ve prepared. Amen.”
