God of the in Between

DAY 1 OF 6

I like to put myself in a Bible story, as though I’m an extra in this holy movie scene. I picture Jesus and his disciples, and, well, me. We’re walking through the villages mentioned in Luke 8. I’m listening to Jesus preach and tell meaningful stories. I’m in awe of Him curing diseases and casting out evil spirits. No doubt we’re retelling those stories over and over again as we walk dirt roads toward the next town. We laugh as James almost trips over a tiny pile of stones and then have a contest to see who can skip those stones the farthest across the lake.

Then Jesus turns to us as though he’s had a sudden idea, and says, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.”

This man, my friend, Jesus - the one who just cast out demons and healed diseases - said we’re going to the other side of the lake. So, where are we going? The answer is obvious. We’re going to the other side of the lake. Jesus said it.

Let’s pause the story right here and fast-forward to the present day. What has your Heavenly Father said to you? “Nothing,” you may say. Well, John 1 verse 14 tells us that “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” John also tells us that the Word was God and the Word is God. When we read the Bible, we are reading the words that God said to His people. God spoke, and He continues speaking to you through His Word. Take a moment to let that sink in. (Although sink may be a bad choice of words, since we’re about to get on a boat in the lake…)

About this Plan

God of the in Between

Between jobs. Between relationships. Between the teenage years and adulthood. Between parenthood and an empty nest. Between where you want to be and where you are now. Or maybe you’re smack in between the prayer and the answer. No matter what the “in between” looks like for you, God is there. A God who loves without leaving. A God who empowers and equips. And, a God who is in the in between.
