Kingdom Parenting

DAY 2 OF 4

Day 2: Raising Children in Godliness

“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV)

Every child must be allowed—and guided—to grow in godliness. Godly growth goes beyond memorizing scriptures; it’s about letting the Word of God become part of their everyday lives. It’s about building a lifestyle around the Word, where children are not just taught about God but are taught to walk with God.

Growth begins with the knowledge of God. Children must see their parents depend on God for provision, protection, and direction. They should hear the Word of God on your lips—not just during Sunday services, but at the family altar, during mealtimes, and in everyday decision-making.

Children should be instructed in godliness so that they pattern their lives by the word of God. The Bible talks about Jesus growing in wisdom and stature (Luke 2:52). Let your home be a place where the Word dwells richly. Let your children see you pray, study the Word, and depend on God for everything. When they witness your faith, they will begin to live by that same faith.

Some parents, though spiritually strong themselves, are unknowingly raising weak children—children who are untrained in spiritual disciplines because their parents think they are too young to pray, fast, or hear from God. But they're not too young. They can be trained to fast and pray at age-appropriate levels. Spiritual growth, like physical growth, is a process, and it must start early.

Teach your children that God is interested even in their academics. Show them how to lean on the Holy Spirit for help, strength, and wisdom in all areas of life. Isaiah 11:1-3 describes the Spirit that rested upon Jesus: the Spirit of wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge, and the fear of the Lord. This is the Spirit that lives in your child through Christ. That means your child can grow strong in spirit, be wise beyond their years, be full of godly counsel, and be sensitive to God’s leading.

We are not just raising children to survive—we are raising warriors to thrive in a world full of distractions and opposition. We are raising them to be strong in the Lord and the power of His might.

Prayer:
Father, help me raise my children in godliness. Let our home be filled with Your Word and presence. Teach me to model dependence on You in all things. Help me train my children to pray, fast, and walk in step with the Spirit. May they grow in wisdom, stature, and favor with You and men. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
