No More Substitutes - Choosing God Above Everything

DAY 2 OF 4

Who Do You Call When You Need Comfort?

Some of you may be thinking something along the lines of: I understand what you’re saying Jada - but life is hard, and I need help. Here is my encouragement to you: God knows that the hard place is what draws us to Him. While we should aim to love God the same at the top of the mountain, like we do when we’re in the valley – that typically is not the case. We tend to love Him differently when life is hard and when we’re struggling. We’ll do anything, and all “right” things, to get God to hear our cry.

So, maybe you’re right where God intends for you to be - to draw you back closer to Him.

The more you seriously start to follow Christ, the more people that feel like friends today will fall away. You will feel like you’re the only one on the path trying to follow the standard of the Lord. And if you begin feeling like you need company or affirmation to feel strong in your faith – you WILL fail.

If you look at everybody God used greatly – they spent much of their time doing it by themselves. Because not everyone is going to go with you. Even in marriage, oftentimes, you will still be doing things by yourself.

Take a moment to re-read Deuteronomy 4:16, 28-30.

Even during our storms and consequences, God still wants us to call on Him. He knows and sees all. Don’t go into hiding – that’s what Adam and Eve did after they failed.

About this Plan

No More Substitutes - Choosing God Above Everything

Too often we get filled up with spiritual “junk” (i.e., relationships, climbing career ladders) and then we have no room for spiritual nourishment. The hunger that we’re feeling is not just in our minds and bodies; it’s in our souls. We try to satisfy our hunger with shallow things, yet only closeness with God truly satisfies the deepest parts of us. He’s not just trying to change today’s meal; he’s trying to change your appetite. In this study, we’ll explore what it means to be satisfied in God and God alone, and how to arrive at that point.
