Day 23: Martha – Strength to Trust in Resurrection Power
Scripture: John 11:20-27
Key Verse: “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.’” – John 11:25
Martha is often remembered as the woman who was too busy serving while her sister Mary sat at Jesus’ feet. But in John 11, we see another side of her, a woman grieving the loss of her brother, Lazarus, yet still holding onto faith.
When Jesus finally arrived in Bethany four days after Lazarus’ death, Martha ran to meet Him. Her words revealed faith and disappointment: “Lord if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” She believed in Jesus’ power but struggled to understand why He had delayed. Yet, even in her grief, she still trusted Him: “But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask.”
Jesus’ response was profound: “I am the resurrection and the life.” He wasn’t just offering comfort; He was calling Martha to trust in His power over life and death. Her faith was being stretched beyond what she could see or understand. Ultimately, she witnessed the impossible: her brother was raised from the dead.
Like Martha, we often want God to work on our timeline. But true strength is found in trusting His resurrection power, even when we don’t see immediate answers. When things seem beyond hope, He calls us to believe He is life.
Prayer Focus: Ask God for the strength to trust in His resurrection power, believing that even in hopeless situations, He is still working.

About this Plan

Jesus told us that our weariness comes from carrying a burden that is too heavy for us. Instead, we are supposed to give our problems, cares, and concerns to Him and allow Him to give us the strength to do what He asks. He will teach us to do this over the next 30 days because He is humble and gentle at heart. God's word will show us examples of people throughout scripture who put their burdens in His hands and found rest for their souls.
