Working Heartily for Christ

Bondservants, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.

Colossians 3:22-24

Lord God,

Forgive me for the days when I simply don’t want to do what You have for me. My mundane tasks weigh heavily upon my desire for more in this life. But while those desires can reflect a need for You, I allow them to take over my present reality. Instead of serving with joy, I go through the motions, accomplishing my tasks for the eye-service and for the people-pleaser within me.

But Your Word tells me to do all things with sincerity of heart. Jesus, thank You that You are not a harsh task master. I ask for the frame of mind to remember each day that my mundane tasks flow out of obedience to You. And so I work heartily for You, Lord, not for any man. How filled with joy my heart becomes when I remember not just this truth, but also the truth that You provide me with an inheritance as my reward! And there is certainly nothing ordinary about that!
