Broadway’s Amazing Grace: The Musical
John Newton was a slave-ship captain who had a life-changing experience during a storm at sea. He later dedicated his life to abolishing the slave trade. He wrote his famous hymn, Amazing Grace, to accompany his sermon on 1 Chronicles 17:6-7. After his sermon, he lamented that he was “unaffected” by his own message. But his hymn, sung or changed for the first time that day, has endured as a beloved hymn.
