Slowing Down for the Seasonნიმუში

If you have a Christmas tree set up in your home, take a moment to sit down at its base. If not, you can do this the next time you see one in a public space.
Starting at the bottom, let your gaze slowly scan upwards. As you do, notice which ornaments or trimmings give you particular joy. When you get to the top of the tree, count to 5 and just look up at what sits there. Is it a star? An angel? A bow? Or something else?
Two thousand years ago, an army of angels appeared above shepherds and summoned them to pursue news of great joy. A star rose before wisemen and led them to that same Joy. This Christmas, let the crown of every decorated tree remind you of the joy that Jesus came to bring. He brought it for you!
Do you find it easy to feel this joy? What makes it difficult? In what activities do you naturally experience joy? Could you do one this week? How could you spread joy to someone around you?

About this Plan

In the hustle and bustle of preparing for Christmas, it can be easy to forget what (and for whom!) this season is all about. These devotionals are an invitation to slow down—even if only for 5 minutes—to read Scripture, engage your senses, and contemplate reflective questions.
