It is easy to get distracted. Even while reading this devotional, you’ll get distracted! Your phone going off, the TV on, a sibling or parent interrupting you, or simply your thoughts wandering to that ever-growing to-do list. Did you just get distracted from reading those examples? Just like it's easy getting distracted while reading this, it's easy to get distracted from doing things that are important to our relationship with God.

In 1 Corinthians 13:4–7, Paul describes what true love looks like. That love is patient, kind, protective and perseveres even when faced with difficulty, distraction, or disappointment. What is even tougher though is figuring out how we put love like that into action. Thankfully, Jesus gives us a great example of just that.

Love can look like staying calm and patient with our parents when they don’t understand how stressed we are and are asking us to do one more thing for them. It can look like giving yourself grace when you do something wrong and try to talk with someone you trust about it. Maybe love looks like forgiving a friend or refusing to spread a rumor.

A great way to refocus and understand how to love others is to look to how Jesus did it. Take time to read about how he stood up for people others wanted to shame, how he travelled distances to show up for just a few people, or how he was patient with his friends when they didn’t understand what was going on. Today, pick one of the ways that Paul describes love and choose one way that you can put into practice.
