Notice that in verse 2, James says “when you face trials”, not “if you face trials”. What’s more, not only should we expect trials, but we should also consider them a joy to endure.

2 Corinthians 12:9 suggests that it is often when we are at our lowest point that Christ reveals himself in the most powerful of ways. There are so many examples of this in stories, a hero who is insignificant, weak, or looked down upon becomes the one who saves their world. There is something in the fabric of reality that tells us that when we face trials and feel unable to go on, those are the times when we can see God most clearly.
