“If you love Me, you will keep My commandments” (John 14:15). These were Jesus’ words to His disciples, and they are His words for us today. Obedience is God’s love language. Doing what He says is more than an obligation; it is our way of showing God how we feel about Him.

How do you feel when your children disobey? Don’t you wonder how they can say they love you and then break your heart at the same time? Jesus is saying the same thing to us. Simply put, when we say we love God, we should also want to please Him.

As God changes you on the inside, strive to work with Him by making changes in your outward behavior. After years of growth, you’ll discover that your branches are bearing good spiritual fruit. You’ll also find that you don’t want to keep doing the same old wrong things you used to enjoy. Instead, you’ll delight in doing His will.
