Righteous Judgment: A Study in Obadiahნიმუში

What does it say?
Obadiah prophesies concerning the Day of the Lord.
What does it mean?
The "Day of the Lord" is a common theme throughout the writings of the prophets. It refers to the day of Jesus' second return, the judgment of the earth, and the establishment of His kingdom forever. For those like Edom, rebellious to God and His kingdom, His judgment will be swift and terrible. They will burn as stubble at the fiery presence of His coming. For the righteous, however, the Day of the Lord is a moment of victory and deliverance.
How should I respond?
The prophetic testimony of the Day of the Lord is a reminder that God is always playing the long game. Although God's people would not have fully understood what Jesus' second coming would be like, they would be encouraged that one day God would defeat all their enemies forever. Friend, be encouraged. Even in your darkness, God is working, moving, and forming you into the image of Jesus Christ. Today's difficulty and despair will one day give way to the Day of the Lord when Jesus returns and defeats all of His enemies. Today, pray for hopeful anticipation and faithful perseverance, looking forward to the great and terrible Day of the Lord.

About this Plan

Obadiah presents prophetic truth regarding the destruction of Edom, a prideful nation descended from Esau. Edom’s pride and animosity towards Israel ultimately resulted in a violent war. Obadiah ends his book declaring, “the kingdom shall be the LORD’s,” pointing toward God’s plan to defeat all His enemies and establish His rule and reign forever.
