Year of the Bible: Part Three of Twelve ნიმუში

Honoring the Priesthood.
This passage reveals the consequences of treating God's calling without proper reverence. Nadab and Abihu, Aaron's sons, were given the honor of being chosen by God to bring the sacrifices that allowed God's people to come close to Him. They were to be a conduit for God's people to live freely in His Presence. They served God while drunk from drinking too much alcohol, and they "profane" or "strange" fire to God. God counted this as disrespect toward Him and their calling, resulting in instant judgment.
Question: What can you learn from God's swift, permanent actions towards Nadab and Abihu's violation of their role? Do you think God's actions were justified?
Prayer Focus: We all carry some influence over others. Invite God to show you how you are doing in fulfilling that role. If you are acting with integrity, give thanksgiving to God. If you are misusing or disregarding your role, repent and seek the mind of the Lord in how you can change the way you think to be in line with His thinking about the matter.
