Advent in Israel: The Places of Israel & the Story of Jesusნიმუში

Day 23 - Jericho (Joshua)
After wandering for 40 years in the dessert, it was time for the people of God to enter the Promised Land. They wanted to rest in a true home, the one that God had promised them. But there were many enemies in the land that they had to defeat before settling it.
The victory at the battle of Jericho showed that God’s people trusted Him. Marching around a city and blowing trumpets doesn’t normally lead to walls falling down, but when God promised the victory, all He was calling for was complete obedience. This obedience led the Israelites into the Promised Land, a place of rest for them after their 40 years of wandering.
However, history shows their rest in the Promised Land was short-lived. But the New Testament points us to the fact that only in the coming Son of God could true rest ever be found. During His time on earth He would call people who are burdened to come and find rest in Him.
How can you find ways to rest in Christ this holiday season?

About this Plan

As we enter the Christmas season, we are all eager to celebrate the birth of Jesus, the point in history where God descended into humanity to bring life to a broken world. Each day leading up to Christmas, we will provide an overview of the biblical significance of a location in Israel, along with a devotional prompt that will connect that location with the life of Jesus in Scripture.
