Love God Greatly - the Greatest Gift Givenნიმუში

Week 4: The Gift of Faith
The Purpose of Faith
Read: Hebrews 11
SOAP: Hebrews 11:1, 6
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, being convinced of what we do not see.
Now without faith it is impossible to please him, for the one who approaches God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
The dictionary defines faith as “confidence or trust in a person or thing; a belief that is not based on proof.” The Bible defines faith as “being sure of what we hope for, being convinced of what we do not see” (Hebrews 11:1).
The gift of faith God has given us is different from the version the world understands because while we might have hope in what we have not seen, we do have proof! God’s Word is our proof that God loves us, has a good plan for us, and has a place for us in His family. Hebrews 11 is a great place to begin, as the author gives us example after example of men and women who showed great faith in God and the outcome of their faith.
Abel offered God a great sacrifice by faith, and by faith, God commended him as righteous. Enoch’s faith pleased God, and as a result, Enoch did not face a natural death. By faith, Noah built the ark God designed, and by faith, God delivered Noah’s family. Abraham and Sarah’s faith stood the test of time, and although they did not see all of God’s promises happen in their lifetime, their faith was rewarded for many generations.
When our faith is placed in people or circumstances, the outcome will usually be disappointment. When our faith is placed in God, He will never let us down. Our reading today says that God rewards those who seek Him and believe in Him. Only faith in God results in a continued pouring out of gifts beyond what we could ask for or imagine and sometimes beyond what we will live to experience. Our faith in God will leave a legacy that will impact generations!
Prayer
Heavenly Father, it is amazing that You would design this relationship in such a beautiful way that my faith in You becomes a blessing. Thank You for the examples of the men and women in Your Word that encourage me to continue believing and hoping in what I can’t yet see. Amen.
