Better | Balance

Better | Balance

We want to win at home. Relationships are complicated, hard, and at times hurtful. When God made us He made us for community. It is one of the primary ways we are to experience Him, learn about Him, and grow in Him. The family unit was intended to be the greatest expression of this.

The book of Philippians gives us great insight and direction to having a
balanced life.

Balance requires an attitude and attitude begins with a choice.

Direction determines destination.
Paul commands us to rejoice and rejoicing is a choice.
People who are happy, especially those who are happy in the Lord,
are not apt to give offense or to take offense. Joy in the Lord
is the cure for discord.
"Let your gentleness be evident to all." Evident means it needs to be seen! Mildness, patience, mercy, moderation, unwillingness
to litigate or contend. This describes the heart of a person who will let the
Lord fight his battles.
It describes a person who is really free to let go of his
anxieties and the things that cause him stress because he knows the Lord
will take up his cause.
Balance requires a joyful attitude and a gentle disposition. It also
requires a prayer life.
Balance comes from peace. Not peace in the absence of difficulty, but in the middle of it!
If our hearts and minds are being emptied of the things that
cause anxiety, what do we fill them with? True things, noble things, right
things, pure things, lovely things, admirable things, excellent and
praiseworthy things. We see these things when we surround ourselves
with good examples.
Who are the examples in your life? Are they good
ones? How about your spouse or your kids? How about your
example to the people you care the most about?
Right now, many of you are feeling the burden of how far away you are
from anything that could be called balance. Paul talks about knowing what
it's like in the best and the worst of circumstances.
We misunderstand what Paul means when he says he can do all things with the strength that comes from Jesus. It isn’t talking about how hard you
can hit but how hard you can be hit and still keep moving forward.
Make a positive change in your routine that will reinforce this
balanced life in Jesus. Make a change that's best for your
family in their walk with the Lord.
