Da den romerske offiseren som hadde stått rett foran Jesus, så hvordan Han døde, sa han: «Dette Menneske var sannelig Guds Sønn!» På avstand sto også mange kvinner som hadde kommet opp til Jerusalem sammen med Jesus, og så på da Jesus døde. Blant dem var Maria Magdalena, Maria, mor til Jakob den yngre og Joses. Salome var også der, hun som hadde vært med Jesus og hjulpet til med praktiske ting mens Han var i Galilea.
