Men ou pral vin ansent, ou pral fè yon pitit gason. Piga ou janm bwè diven, ni okenn lòt bweson ki pou fè ou sou. Nitou, piga ou manje anyen ki pa bon pou moun k'ap sèvi Bondye manje. Paske ou pral ansent, ou pral fè yon pitit gason. Piga ou janm koupe cheve nan tèt li, paske depi nan vant manman l, se yon gason k'ap viv apa pou Bondye tankou nazirit yo l'ap ye. Se li menm ki pral konmanse travay pou delivre pèp Izrayèl la anba men moun Filisti yo. Apre sa, madanm lan antre al di mari l: — Yon moun Bondye te vin bò kote m. Lè mwen gade l, pou jan li te fè m pè a ou ta di yon mesaje Bondye. Mwen pa mande l kote l sòti, ni li pa ban m non li. Li di m konsa: Ou pral ansent, ou pral fè yon pitit gason. Piga ou janm bwè diven, ni okenn lòt bweson ki pou fè ou sou. Ni piga ou manje anyen ki pa bon pou moun k'ap sèvi Bondye manje. Paske pitit gason ou lan pral viv apa pou Bondye tankou nazirit yo depi nan vant manman l jouk jou li mouri. Lè sa a, Manoak lapriyè Senyè a, li di: — Tanpri, Mèt mwen, fè moun Bondye ou te voye a vin bò kote nou ankò pou l ka di nou sa pou nou fè pou ti gason ki pral fèt la. Bondye fè sa Manoak te mande l la vre. Epi mesaje Bondye a vin bò kote madanm lan ki te chita nan yon jaden. Manoak, mari a, pat avè l. Madanm lan prese kouri al bay mari l nouvèl la. Piga li janm manje anyen ki pa bon pou moun k'ap sèvi Bondye manje. Se pou li fè tou sa mwen mande l fè a. Manoak di mesaje Senyè a: — Tanpri, poko ale. Kite nou kwit yon jenn ti kabrit pou ou. Mesaje Senyè a di Manoak konsa: — Menm si mwen rete mwen p'ap manje manje w'ap ban mwen an. Men si ou vle, touye yon ti kabrit, boule l nan dife tankou yon ofrann pou Senyè a. Manoak pat ankò konnen si se te yon mesaje Senyè a ki te devan l. Manoak di mesaje Senyè a: — Di nou ki jan ou rele pou nou ka fè lwanj pou ou lè pawòl ou di yo va rive vre. Mesaje Senyè a di l: — Poukisa nou vle konnen non m? Non m se yon mèvèy. Manoak pran jenn ti kabrit la ak kèk grenn jaden, li mete yo sou lotèl wòch la, li ofri yo pou Senyè a ki fè yon mèvèy devan Manoak ak madanm li ki te rete la ap gade. Pandan flanm dife yo t'ap sòti sou lotèl la moute nan syèl la, Manoak ak madanm li wè mesaje Senyè a moute nan syèl la nan flanm dife a. Lè yo wè sa, yo lage kò yo fas atè. Manoak ak madanm li pa janm wè mesaje Bondye a ankò. Se lè sa a, Manoak vin konprann se te yon mesaje Senyè a ki te parèt devan yo a. Lè sa a, Manoak di madanm li: — Nou pral mouri, paske nou wè Bondye! Madanm lan di l: — Si Senyè a te vle touye nou, li pa ta asepte ofrann nou fè pou li yo. Li pa ta fè nou wè tout bagay sa yo, ni li pa ta fè nou tande tout pawòl sa yo. Apre sa, madanm lan fè yon pitit gason, li rele l Samson. Pitit la grandi, Senyè a te beni l. Epi lespri Senyè a konmanse travay nan li antan li te nan kan moun Dann yo, ant Soreja ak Echtawòl.

Les Israélites recommencent à faire ce qui est mal aux yeux du SEIGNEUR. Et le SEIGNEUR les livre aux Philistins pendant 40 ans. À Sora, il y a un homme d’un clan de la tribu de Dan. Il s’appelle Manoa. Sa femme n’a pas d’enfant, et elle ne peut pas en avoir. L’ange du SEIGNEUR se montre à la femme de Manoa et lui dit : « Je sais que tu n’as pas d’enfant, parce que tu ne peux pas en avoir. Pourtant, tu vas être enceinte et tu mettras au monde un fils. À partir de maintenant, ne bois plus de vin ni d’autre alcool. Ne mange aucune nourriture impure, parce que tu vas être enceinte. Tu vas mettre au monde un fils. On ne lui coupera pas les cheveux. En effet, il sera consacré à Dieu dès avant sa naissance . C’est lui qui commencera à délivrer les Israélites du pouvoir des Philistins. » La femme rentre chez elle et dit à son mari : « Un homme de Dieu s’est présenté à moi. Il ressemblait à un ange de Dieu. En effet, il était impressionnant à voir. Je ne lui ai pas demandé d’où il venait, et il ne m’a pas dit son nom. Il m’a dit : “Tu vas être enceinte. Tu mettras au monde un fils. À partir de maintenant, ne bois plus de vin ni d’autre alcool. Ne mange aucune nourriture impure. En effet, le garçon sera consacré à Dieu dès avant sa naissance et jusqu’à sa mort.” » Manoa fait cette prière au SEIGNEUR : « Je t’en prie, Seigneur, fais revenir l’homme de Dieu que tu nous as envoyé ! Qu’il nous apprenne ce que nous devons faire pour le garçon qui va naître ! » Dieu entend la prière de Manoa : l’ange de Dieu se présente une deuxième fois à la femme, quand elle est aux champs. Son mari n’est pas avec elle. Alors elle court vite l’annoncer à son mari. Elle lui dit : « Écoute ! L’homme qui est venu me trouver l’autre jour s’est de nouveau montré à moi. » Manoa part, il suit sa femme, il arrive près de l’homme et lui demande : « Est-ce que c’est toi qui as parlé à ma femme ? » Il répond : « Oui, c’est moi. » Manoa continue : « Eh bien, quand tes paroles se réaliseront, qu’est-ce qu’il faudra faire pour le garçon ? Quelles règles devrons-nous suivre ? » L’ange du SEIGNEUR répond à Manoa : « Ta femme devra faire tout ce que je lui ai dit. Elle ne mangera aucun produit de la vigne, elle ne boira pas de vin ni d’autre alcool. Elle ne mangera aucune nourriture impure. Elle fera tout ce que je lui ai commandé. » Manoa dit à l’ange : « Permets-nous de te retenir. Nous allons te préparer un cabri. » L’ange répond : « Même si je reste, je ne mangerai pas ta nourriture. Mais si tu veux offrir un sacrifice complet au SEIGNEUR, fais-le ! » Manoa ne savait pas que c’était l’ange du SEIGNEUR. Il lui demande : « Quel est ton nom ? Dis-le-moi, et nous pourrons t’honorer quand tes paroles se réaliseront. » L’ange lui répond : « Pourquoi veux-tu connaître mon nom ? Il est mystérieux. » Manoa prépare un cabri et une offrande et il les offre sur un rocher au SEIGNEUR, qui agit de façon mystérieuse. Pendant que Manoa et sa femme regardent, les flammes du sacrifice montent de l’autel vers le ciel. Et l’ange du SEIGNEUR monte au milieu des flammes. Alors ils se mettent à genoux, le front contre le sol. À ce moment-là, Manoa comprend que c’est l’ange du SEIGNEUR. Et l’ange ne se montre plus jamais à eux. Manoa dit à sa femme : « Nous allons sûrement mourir, parce que nous avons vu Dieu. » Sa femme lui répond : « Sûrement pas ! Le SEIGNEUR a accepté notre sacrifice complet et notre offrande. Il nous a montré ce que nous venons de voir. Il nous a dit ce que nous venons d’entendre. Il ne veut donc pas nous faire mourir. » La femme de Manoa met au monde un fils. Elle lui donne le nom de Samson. Le garçon grandit, et le SEIGNEUR le bénit. Un jour, Samson se trouve au camp de Dan, entre Sora et Èchetaol. C’est là que l’esprit du SEIGNEUR le pousse à agir pour la première fois.

Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD, so the LORD delivered them into the hands of the Philistines for forty years. A certain man of Zorah, named Manoah, from the clan of the Danites, had a wife who was childless, unable to give birth. The angel of the LORD appeared to her and said, “You are barren and childless, but you are going to become pregnant and give birth to a son. Now see to it that you drink no wine or other fermented drink and that you do not eat anything unclean. You will become pregnant and have a son whose head is never to be touched by a razor because the boy is to be a Nazirite, dedicated to God from the womb. He will take the lead in delivering Israel from the hands of the Philistines.” Then the woman went to her husband and told him, “A man of God came to me. He looked like an angel of God, very awesome. I didn’t ask him where he came from, and he didn’t tell me his name. But he said to me, ‘You will become pregnant and have a son. Now then, drink no wine or other fermented drink and do not eat anything unclean, because the boy will be a Nazirite of God from the womb until the day of his death.’ ” Then Manoah prayed to the LORD: “Pardon your servant, Lord. I beg you to let the man of God you sent to us come again to teach us how to bring up the boy who is to be born.” God heard Manoah, and the angel of God came again to the woman while she was out in the field; but her husband Manoah was not with her. The woman hurried to tell her husband, “He’s here! The man who appeared to me the other day!” Manoah got up and followed his wife. When he came to the man, he said, “Are you the man who talked to my wife?” “I am,” he said. So Manoah asked him, “When your words are fulfilled, what is to be the rule that governs the boy’s life and work?” The angel of the LORD answered, “Your wife must do all that I have told her. She must not eat anything that comes from the grapevine, nor drink any wine or other fermented drink nor eat anything unclean. She must do everything I have commanded her.” Manoah said to the angel of the LORD, “We would like you to stay until we prepare a young goat for you.” The angel of the LORD replied, “Even though you detain me, I will not eat any of your food. But if you prepare a burnt offering, offer it to the LORD.” (Manoah did not realize that it was the angel of the LORD.) Then Manoah inquired of the angel of the LORD, “What is your name, so that we may honor you when your word comes true?” He replied, “Why do you ask my name? It is beyond understanding.” Then Manoah took a young goat, together with the grain offering, and sacrificed it on a rock to the LORD. And the LORD did an amazing thing while Manoah and his wife watched: As the flame blazed up from the altar toward heaven, the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame. Seeing this, Manoah and his wife fell with their faces to the ground. When the angel of the LORD did not show himself again to Manoah and his wife, Manoah realized that it was the angel of the LORD. “We are doomed to die!” he said to his wife. “We have seen God!” But his wife answered, “If the LORD had meant to kill us, he would not have accepted a burnt offering and grain offering from our hands, nor shown us all these things or now told us this.” The woman gave birth to a boy and named him Samson. He grew and the LORD blessed him, and the Spirit of the LORD began to stir him while he was in Mahaneh Dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.

A Tsorea vivait un homme de la tribu de Dan appelé Manoah. Sa femme était stérile et n’avait jamais pu avoir d’enfant. Un jour, l’ange de l’Eternel apparut à cette femme et lui dit : Tu es stérile et tu n’as jamais eu d’enfant. Pourtant, tu vas être enceinte et tu donneras le jour à un fils. A partir de maintenant, prends bien garde de ne boire ni vin, ni autre boisson alcoolisée et de ne rien manger qui soit rituellement impur. Car tu vas être enceinte et tu mettras au monde un fils. Ce garçon sera consacré à Dieu dès le sein maternel : jamais il ne devra se couper les cheveux ou la barbe. C’est lui qui commencera à délivrer Israël des Philistins. La femme rentra chez elle et dit à son mari : Un homme de Dieu m’a abordée, son aspect était comme celui d’un ange de Dieu ; il était terrifiant. Je ne lui ai pas demandé d’où il venait, et il ne m’a pas dit son nom. Mais il m’a annoncé que je vais être enceinte et que je mettrai un fils au monde. Il m’a dit de ne boire ni vin, ni boisson alcoolisée et de ne rien manger d’impur, car l’enfant sera consacré à Dieu dès le sein maternel et jusqu’à sa mort. Alors Manoah adressa cette prière à l’Eternel : Je te prie, Seigneur, fais revenir vers nous l’homme de Dieu que tu as déjà envoyé, pour qu’il nous apprenne ce que nous aurons à faire à l’égard de l’enfant à naître. Dieu exauça la prière de Manoah. L’ange de Dieu revint se présenter à la femme pendant qu’elle était assise dans un champ. Manoah n’était pas avec elle. Elle courut aussitôt le lui annoncer : L’homme qui est venu l’autre jour se présenter à moi, m’est de nouveau apparu. Immédiatement, Manoah se leva et suivit sa femme. Il se rendit auprès de l’homme, et lui demanda : Est-ce toi qui as parlé à cette femme ? – Oui, c’est moi, lui répondit-il. Et Manoah lui dit : Maintenant, quand tes paroles se réaliseront, quelles règles devra-t-on suivre à l’égard de ce garçon, et que devra-t-il faire ? L’ange de l’Eternel lui répondit : Ta femme devra s’abstenir de tout ce que je lui ai mentionné. Elle ne mangera aucun fruit de la vigne, ne boira ni vin, ni boisson alcoolisée et ne prendra aucune nourriture qui soit rituellement impure. Qu’elle observe soigneusement tout ce que je lui ai ordonné. Alors Manoah dit à l’ange de l’Eternel : Permets-nous de te retenir et de te présenter un chevreau. L’ange lui répondit : Même si tu me retiens, je ne mangerai pas la nourriture que tu me présenteras ; mais si tu le veux, offre un holocauste à l’Eternel. Manoah ne savait pas que c’était l’ange de l’Eternel. Il demanda à l’ange : Quel est ton nom ? Ainsi, quand ce que tu as annoncé se réalisera, nous pourrons t’honorer. L’ange de l’Eternel répliqua : Pourquoi demandes-tu mon nom ? Il est merveilleux. Alors Manoah prit un chevreau et l’offrande de céréales qui doit accompagner l’holocauste et il les offrit à l’Eternel sur le rocher. Pendant que Manoah et sa femme regardaient, il se produisit une chose merveilleuse : lorsque la flamme monta de l’autel vers le ciel, l’ange de l’Eternel s’éleva au milieu de la flamme sous leurs yeux. Alors ils se jetèrent la face contre terre. L’ange de l’Eternel n’apparut plus à Manoah et à sa femme. Manoah comprit que c’était l’ange de l’Eternel qui leur était apparu, et il dit à sa femme : Nous allons sûrement mourir, car nous avons vu Dieu ! Mais sa femme lui dit : Si l’Eternel avait voulu nous faire mourir, il n’aurait pas accepté notre holocauste et notre offrande, il ne nous aurait pas fait voir toutes ces choses, et il ne nous aurait pas annoncé aujourd’hui tout ce qu’il nous a communiqué. La femme donna naissance à un fils et elle l’appela Samson. L’enfant grandit et l’Eternel le bénit. L’Esprit de l’Eternel commença à le pousser à l’action lorsqu’il était à Mahané-Dan entre Tsorea et Eshtaol.
