Yo vire do bay Senyè a, yo sispann sèvi l. Se konsa Senyè a fache sou pèp Izrayèl la. Li kite moun Filisti yo ak moun Amon yo mete pye sou kou yo. Pandan tout lanne a, moun sa yo maltrete pèp Izrayèl la, yo malmennen yo. Les Israélites font de nouveau ce qui est mal aux yeux du SEIGNEUR. Ils adorent les dieux Baal et les déesses Astartés. Ils adorent aussi les dieux des Syriens, des Sidoniens, des Moabites, des Ammonites et des Philistins. Ils abandonnent le SEIGNEUR et ne le servent plus. Alors le SEIGNEUR se met en colère contre les Israélites et il les livre aux Philistins et aux Ammonites. À partir de ce moment-là et pendant 18 ans, ils maltraitent et écrasent sous leur pouvoir tous les Israélites qui vivent en Galaad, la région amorite située à l’est du fleuve Jourdain.

Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD. They served the Baals and the Ashtoreths, and the gods of Aram, the gods of Sidon, the gods of Moab, the gods of the Ammonites and the gods of the Philistines. And because the Israelites forsook the LORD and no longer served him, he became angry with them. He sold them into the hands of the Philistines and the Ammonites, who that year shattered and crushed them. For eighteen years they oppressed all the Israelites on the east side of the Jordan in Gilead, the land of the Amorites.

Les Israélites recommencèrent à faire ce que l’Eternel considère comme mal : ils rendirent un culte aux Baals et aux Astartés, aux dieux de la Syrie, de Sidon, de Moab et à ceux des Ammonites et des Philistins. Ils abandonnèrent l’Eternel et ne lui rendirent plus de culte. Alors l’Eternel se mit en colère contre les Israélites et il les livra au pouvoir des Philistins et des Ammonites. A partir de cette année-là, ceux-ci opprimèrent et maltraitèrent les Israélites. Pour les Israélites qui habitaient à l’est du Jourdain dans le pays des Amoréens, en Galaad, l’oppression dura dix-huit ans.
