Alors j’ai réfléchi à toutes mes activités et à tout le mal que je me suis donné pour les réaliser. Et voilà : tout cela ne sert à rien, autant courir après le vent ! Les humains ne retirent aucun avantage de ce qu’ils font sous le soleil.

Puis j’ai considéré l’ensemble de mes réalisations, et toute la peine que je m’étais donnée pour les accomplir. Et voici ma conclusion : tout est vain ; autant courir après le vent. On n’en tire aucun avantage sous le soleil.
