DAY 2 OF 3

The Power of a Transformed Life

If you live long enough, you will quickly notice how messy relationships can get. Not just because of the mistakes of the people in our lives, but because of our own issues as well. At the center of Paul’s letter is a man named Onesimus.

Onesimus had been a slave who likely ran away from Philemon. But somewhere along the way, Onesimus encountered the gospel through Paul, and his life was transformed.

Paul writes, “Formerly he was useless to you, but now he has become useful both to you and to me” (Philemon 1:11 NIV).

This is the power of the gospel.

Jesus doesn’t simply forgive our past; He changes our future.

A person who once caused harm can become a blessing. Someone who once ran from responsibility can become faithful. The gospel turns broken stories into testimonies of grace.

Paul now sends Onesimus back to Philemon—not merely as a slave, but as a brother in Christ.

The gospel reshapes identity. In Christ, we are no longer defined by our worst decisions but by God’s grace.

When Jesus changes a life, the transformation should be evident to others.

Reflection

  • How has Jesus changed your life since you began following Him?
  • Is there an area where God is still shaping your character?

Respond to God’s Word

Thank God for the ways He has changed your life. Ask Him to continue shaping your character so that others can see the work of Christ in you.

Prayer

Father, thank You for the transforming power of the gospel. Continue shaping my life so that my character reflects Jesus. Help me live in a way that honors You. Amen.

About this Plan

Philemon

The gospel doesn’t just change our relationship with God—it changes how we relate to others. In the short letter of Philemon, Paul addresses a difficult situation between Philemon and his runaway servant, Onesimus, revealing the transforming power of the gospel. This story shows how faith in Jesus reshapes identity, restores broken relationships, and calls believers to extend forgiveness and grace. Over the next three days, discover how the gospel can transform your heart and influence the way you treat others. Ask God to help you live out His grace in every relationship.
