Reflection:

• At the end of a long day of ministry, what did Jesus do after saying goodbye to the disciples? What does this action reveal to you about the power of prayer and the need for it in your own life?
• Jesus walked on water in front of the disciples with the intent to pass right by them! Can you imagine how shocking this must have been for the disciples? This is a clear reference to the way God passed by Moses on Mount Sinai in Exodus 33. Jesus also refers to Himself as “I AM”––the same declaration God made to Moses at the burning bush. By walking by them and calling Himself “I AM,” what does Jesus imply about His nature?
• Verse 52 tells us the disciples were unwilling to learn from God and that their hearts were hardened. Even disciples can develop an unwillingness to learn from Jesus. What effect does their stubbornness have on how they reacted to the events that occurred in verses 47-51?
• In verse 56, what happened when the sick touched Jesus? What does the use of the word “all” in the verse imply about Jesus’ ability to heal?

Pray and Apply:

Reflect for a few minutes on the faithfulness of God. How has He rescued you, provided for you and performed the impossible and miraculous in your life? What lessons did those miracle moments teach you? Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal lessons from these past moments so that you can apply them in your life now. Ask for your faith to be increased and to gain a greater courage and boldness as you follow Jesus.
