Be Good to Your Bodyનમૂનો

NOURISHED
The book of Genesis offers more foundational truths that can guide us as we aim to be good stewards of our bodies. God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. . . . Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything” (NIV 1:29; 9:3).
We are designed to eat what our creator gave us for nourishment: simple, wholesome food from the earth. This nourishment may have been easier for our ancestors to access because food in Bible times was more wholesome and void of harmful chemicals, factory farming, and mass manufacturing practices. People ate food according to God’s design because that’s all that was available.
Despite being fundamentally very simple, eating healthier food often requires more effort nowadays. We likely have to go out of our way to source quality food that is in its most natural or whole form—in other words, food that is closest to how God designed it before it was corrupted by humans trying to do it easier, faster, and cheaper.
Some might say it’s high-maintenance to prioritize sourcing quality food. While healthy eating can absolutely become an unhealthy obsession, I can’t help but think of the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31. Verse 14 describes her like this: “She is like the ships of the merchant; she brings her food from afar.” That is, she went out of her way to find the best for her family. She does not settle for what is convenient—she seeks what is good.
How applicable to our modern life! Sometimes what’s convenient isn’t what’s best, and it’s not bougie or high-maintenance to seek out the best for our bodies and families within our means. According to the Bible, it’s virtuous. I don’t know about you, but I want to live as virtuously as possible, even if that means going out of my way to seek real food and better-quality products that help me nourish my body and live a little more aligned with God’s design in a world that has gotten so far away from it.
Lord, thank You for providing good food to nourish and sustain us. In a world of convenience and compromise, help me discern what is truly good. Keep me from obsession or fear and fill me with peace, gratitude, and the courage to live more closely aligned with Your design. Amen.
