GO IN FAITH

When driving around and looking at Christmas lights, chances are high that you’ll spot a few nativity scenes. You’ll see the manger, baby Jesus, Mary, and standing right beside them, Joseph. He’s always there, but have you ever stopped to think about the faith it took for him to be there?

Think about the reality of it: the woman he loved was pregnant, and he knew he wasn’t the father. In their culture, that kind of news wasn’t just the town gossip—it brought deep shame and could have had some serious repercussions for Mary. Instead of publicly disgracing her, Joseph decided to quietly end the engagement in an attempt to protect her. Then, a word from God came to him in a dream.

“Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 1:20 NIV).

That title, “son of David,” is meant to remind Joseph that God’s promise was still unfolding— that through his obedience, the long-awaited Messiah would be born into David’s royal line.

Joseph woke up and did exactly what God commanded. He stayed. He trusted. He went forward in faith even when everything around him said to walk away.

Having faith isn’t having all the answers—it’s trusting the One who does. You may find yourself in a situation that doesn’t make sense, where obedience comes with questions. But when you go in faith, God will meet you in the middle of uncertainty.
