Let Go of Your Past: Dropping Your Hindrances, Being Transformed, and Standing Strong

DAY 7 OF 7

Standing Strong

Growing pains can be so complex and severely intense that they paralyze us, and we do nothing at all. Thus, we give in to the often repeated but seldom true idiom, “Things will work themselves out.” It’s true that things work themselves out, but the outcome of inaction is usually not positive. Marriage problems hardly ever magically get better by themselves; they more often end in divorce. A personal or corporate financial crisis left unattended will usually wind up in bankruptcy, not in prosperity. When we refuse to lead ourselves well, we are like a garden left to cultivate itself; soon weeds and rodents destroy what was once a promising environment. Adam was placed in the garden of Eden to “cultivate it and keep it” (Genesis 2:15). Think about it: long before Adam sinned, Eden’s garden still needed a caretaker. What are the chances that our situations are going to get better if we don’t put on our big boy (or big girl) pants and do something about them?

Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore….” (Ephesians 6:13–14)

Standing strong in the midst of difficulties and metamorphosis doesn’t mean gritting your teeth, striving harder, or pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps (although, in fairness, there still may be some days like that!). It means anchoring your heart in the strength of God and understanding that He’s not finished writing your story. Let me be clear: standing isn’t passive. It’s powerful. It’s what happens when your weakness collides with His strength. The God of mercy and grace is inviting you to the place where His power shows up in your pressure and where your inability becomes the backdrop for His supernatural ability. This is how we stand strong; not in ourselves, but in Him.

The great apostle Paul wrote:

He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. Therefore, I am well content with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, with difficulties, for Christ’s sake; for when I am weak, then I am strong. (1 Corinthians 12:9–10)

Stand strong in God’s strength, release the hindrances of your past, and make the changes you need to enter into your new season as you experience metamorphosis. Move from caterpillar to cocoon to butterfly and soar high into God’s purposes for you!

Thought: Standing strong happens when your weakness collides with God’s strength.

Prayer: Jesus, I praise You that even though I am weak, I am strong because Your power dwells in me. I stand strong, not in myself but in You. Thank You for continuing to write my story as I release my past and view my life according to Your transcended reality. Enable me to live future-present from this day forward. In Your name, amen!
