Unleashed to Reveal Kingdom Mysteries
In the Bible, mystery refers to something hidden in the Old Testament that is later explained in the New Testament. A biblical mystery often conceals the principle until it’s time for it to be revealed. That’s why the Old Testament is full of symbols and analogies. These situations set up the New Testament fulfillment, or revelation.
Jesus spoke wisdom and clarity into the minds of His listeners, oftentimes through parables. A parable is a story that illustrates a moral or spiritual truth. Not everyone can understand the meaning of a parable. There must be a heart to understand and the ability to discern spiritual or moral truths.
The kingdom of God is a mystery. No one can fully understand the insights and the wisdom within it. Any understanding comes from the Spirit; it is a gift often wrapped in the context of a contemporary reality. The reason parables were often given as a way to reveal truth to a limited number of people was because Jesus knew who His true followers were. Jesus wasn’t interested in revealing His mysteries to opportunists. He sought out true kingdom disciples in whom to plant the seeds of spiritual wisdom.
Just like in the parable of the sower (see Luke 8:4-8), the determiner of the growth and understanding of the Word of God in your life is the ground in which it is received. If growth isn’t happening in your life, it’s not a problem with the Bible. The Bible is a living document, always able to produce great growth (see Hebrews 4:12-13). The seed of the Word of God must be able to penetrate the soil of our spirit to produce its new life, bringing insight into the mysteries of the kingdom of God.
Each of us comes into this world spiritually dead and unable to communicate with God. As we grow and develop, if we remain separated from God in our spirit, then our soul continues to become corrupted. The solution comes through salvation. When a person believes in Jesus for the gift of eternal life and the forgiveness of sin, the living seed of God penetrates that person’s spirit and creates a new life. It is life, but it must grow and develop spiritual maturity. The condition of the soul and its receptivity to the Word of God will determine the expansion of new life into maturity. Both will determine how much of God’s will, power, and favor you unleash in your life.
The only soil that produced growth in Jesus’ parable was the good soil. The good soil includes an honest and good heart (see Luke 8:15). You have to willingly acknowledge where you and the Word of God disagree. You also need to be honest with yourself and acknowledge where you fall short. You need to get real and raw with the Lord. He knows the truth anyhow. You need to hold fast to the Word of God. Meditate on it. Nurture it in you. Humbly accept it and trust it to save and transform your soul. When you bear fruit that will last, you are in alignment with God and unleashing His will in your life for His glory and the benefit of others.
Read the parable of the sower in Luke 8:4-8. How would you describe the soil of your heart? Have you placed your faith in Jesus as both the One who forgives your sin and as the One who directs your life?
Why are surrender to Jesus as Lord, the one who directs your life, and meditation on His Word key to knowing and understanding Him and His plan for you and the world?
How can having an honest and good heart (see Luke 8:15) as you approach God and His Word help you grow in spiritual maturity?
Prayer
Lord, thank You that Your Word shows me the mysteries of the kingdom as You give me understanding. Give me a heart to understand Your truth and to let go of any lies that I have embraced. Thank You for the freedom that comes from the truth of Your Word. May I hold fast to it, nurture it and trust it to save and transform my heart into good soil. As I bear fruit for Your glory and the benefit of others, Your will is unleashed in and through my life. Amen.
About this Plan

This reading plan includes three daily devotions based on Tony Evans’ book Unleashed: Releasing God’s Glorious Kingdom in and through You. This study will explore what is needed in our lives to unleash the power of God in our lives to bring His kingdom to this world. We will look into what it means to unleash understanding of God’s kingdom mysteries through His Word, how we can experience and share God’s blessings when we put Him first, and how leaving a kingdom impact comes when we align ourselves under His rule as His ambassadors.
