Galatians

DAY 10 OF 11

Paul is a realist. He knows that Christians can also "stumble" into sin. These situations will happen. But then, the community's reaction is what matters: instead of condemning, fellow believers should lovingly and gently help the person get back on their feet. In doing so, Paul urges humility, because the helper isn't immune to temptation either.

The "law of Christ," which should apply in such situations, is love.

This is another example of how the old law isn't abolished—it's fulfilled by the Holy Spirit. Not through a sense of duty, but through lived love.

Love also means not elevating yourself above others. The Judaizers back then were proud of their—ultimately incomplete—adherence to the law. But Christians know that everything we are and have, we owe to Jesus. There's no reason to exalt ourselves.

Paul also reminds them of something very practical: Remember those who teach you in the faith. Contribute to their livelihood so they have the time to teach you.

To Reflect On
Where have you experienced someone lovingly helping you when you "stumbled"?

Are there people for whom you find it hard to live out the "law of Christ"? If so, remember that it's not you, but the Holy Spirit alone who can accomplish this within you. Ask Him for it.

A lighthearted tip regarding verse 6:
In some countries, September 9th is known as "Bring Your Priest a Beer Day," serving as a reminder to say thank you to those who support you spiritually. Maybe this is a little nudge for you too: simply say thank you to someone who supports you in your faith—with a beer, a letter, or a kind greeting.
