Mental Health Week

DAY 4 OF 4

We can all agree that we are living in a world that seems to never slow down, causing our minds to constantly run as if we’re up against a time clock. This is understandable because we live in a world where hustle and productivity are praised without ever being taught or often encouraged to rest. Even when our bodies pause, our minds often don’t.

Sometimes we don’t realize that we’re operating out of mental fatigue from carrying the heavy burdens of anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, etc. These are real emotions, but not outside of God’s care. Scripture reminds us of two very important truths.

1. Rest was created by God. In Genesis, we see that God created the heavens and the earth in six days, then rested on the seventh day, calling it holy. God didn’t create the sabbath because He was tired, but because rest is a part of His design for creation, including us.

2. Jesus invites all who are weary and burdened to come to Him. He invites us not to perform or pretend but to rest. Jesus wants us to lay down our striving and take on His peace that surpasses all understanding.

All throughout this devotional, we’ve been reminded that mental health isn’t separate from our spiritual lives because God created us as whole beings. God created us mind, body, and soul. With that, we know that God not only cares about our hearts but our minds as well.

So the question is, how can we build rhythms that protect our mental well-being and lead us back to His resting place? What would it look like for us to take care of our minds in a way that honors God?

Practical and Intentional Ways to Rest:

● Create margin: make space for solitude and sabbath.

● Guard your eyes and ears: limit constant input and outside distractions

● Practice stillness: sit in silence, take deep breaths, or rest with a worship pad in the

background

● Pursue community - Community provides a place to be honest, find support, and to be

reminded of God’s truth by doing life with others.
