The Ministry Table

DAY 14 OF 30

Faithful, Not Perfect

Dear Ministry Leader,

Thank you. I see you. And I honor you. Every day, you choose to serve God’s people, often in ways that go unseen and unthanked. Ministry is demanding, costly, and sometimes lonely—yet you keep showing up. Your faithfulness, your labor, your care for others—it matters deeply.

Even so, I know some of you carry doubts. Perhaps you’ve made mistakes. Perhaps the cost of serving has even led you to question whether you heard God’s call correctly. If that’s you, hear this: you did hear Him right. God called you to serve His bride, the Church. You haven’t done it perfectly, but you have done it.

There have been seasons when ministry also seemed to serve you. But more often, it has demanded more than it gave back. Along the way, at times your motivations may have become mixed—sometimes serving self, sometimes serving God. Still, I know that beneath it all is a true desire to serve the Lord and His people.

Without you—mistakes and all—I would never have stepped foot in a church. I would never have known Jesus. I would never have become who He called me to be. Jesus works through people, and He worked through you to reach me, to teach me, and to love me. How can I thank you enough for that?

Scripture reminds us that leaders are called to live above reproach and will be held to a higher account. Yet even in this weighty calling, His mercy is greater still. You preach Jesus and the blood that covers it all. That same blood covers you.

What remains is the good you’ve done—the astounding, selfless, beautiful good you’ve done in His name. And where mistakes have caused pain, God is able to redeem and restore. The call is not to perfection, but to ongoing faithfulness, repentance, and growth.

May you continue to shepherd with humility and perseverance.

About this Plan

The Ministry Table

The Ministry Table is a 30-day devotional plan created by and for ministry leaders. Each day, you’ll hear from a different pastor, leader, or ministry practitioner — voices from many churches, traditions, and places — offering encouragement, challenge, and wisdom drawn from their own walk with Jesus. Together, these reflections form a shared table of daily bread: a space where leaders can be fed, strengthened, and reminded that we’re not walking this road alone.
