To give a little bit of context, the book of Joshua begins at the end of the 40 years of wandering in the desert by the Israelites. Moses (who led them TO the Promised Land) is now dead and Joshua (who will lead them INTO the Promised Land) is the new leader.
You can think of these nine verses as God giving Joshua an encouraging “pep talk” the way a football coach would do to his team before a big game.
Notice all that God says He has done…and will do.
“…the land I am giving you…”
“I have given you…”
“I promised…”
“I will be with you…”
“I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
“…the land I swore to their fathers I would give them.”
“…the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua doesn’t know how everything will work out. But he trusts the One who makes the promises.
